I do - Afternoon tea in Surrey

I have another afternoon tea post for you! This one is a little different - I went to the Frimley Hall Hotel for afternoon tea with my Grandma for her 80th birthday! This is outside of London and was a more traditional tea (than my last tea afternoon tea blogpost in Sketch) in a lovely old house. This is actually where my mum, her sisters and her brother all got married so it has a little bit of family history and the main reason me and my brother decided to take my grandma here.

The hotel managed to cater for me (and my boyfriend) being Gluten free, and the afternoon tea itself was traditional finger sandwiches, scones and cakes. The biggest fault was the service. Us and one other family were the only ones visiting when we had our booking, yet we had to wait a long time for any service to the table and the information we were given about food was sparse. Something also worth noting as well is that if asking for a diabetic version of afternoon tea, your cakes/scones will just be replaced with a plate of fruit - something we were not told before book and turned out to be a little disappointing.
The sandwiches were traditional fillings - egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon, ham and mustard and cucumber and were tasty, but not anything special. The scone was really nice and as someone that doesn't like scones too much, I devoured mine and washed it down with Earl Grey, whilst others had breakfast tea. The teas were just normal bags (no loose leaves) that you'd get in a cafe but they had homemade jam which added an extra touch!

The desserts where the best part - there was a mix of desserts, cakes and tarts, all mini enough to have a taster and not be too much. It also meant you could try a little bit of everything! The best thing was the vanilla panna cotta with rhubarb mousse that I had two of! Yum!

The setting is lovely, especially on a summers day where you will most likely be able to sneak a peek at a wedding on the grounds whilst having your afternoon tea. There are gardens all around the building, where you can walk all those cakes off and enjoy the quiet of being away from London! Plus theres a spa if you'd like to make a whole day of being in Frimley!
